No Mow May encourages people to leave their lawn undisturbed during the month of May to help bees and other pollinators that lack abundant food sources this time of year. This is one way to help provide a habitat for wildlife, reduce your carbon footprint, save time and money, and connect with nature. It’s time to let your lawn grow wild!
Other ways to benefit native bees and other pollinators:
- Let more time pass between mows than usual.
- Plant native plants in your yard, especially ones that bloom in early spring.
- Reduce your lawn size.
- Eliminate your use of herbicides and pesticides.
Show Your Support with a Yard Sign
If you’d like to order a yard sign to tell your neighbors you’re participating in No Mow May, please contact marcia@greennewton.org and write “No Mow May Sign” in the subject line. Suggested donation to cover Green Newton’s costs for printing the signs is $10. Deadline to place your order is April 4.
Signs will be available for pickup at Newton’s Earth Day Festival at Newton North High School on Sunday, April 21 from 12-4pm. Other arrangements can be made if you are unavailable to pick up your sign at the event.
