Used alkaline batteries can be disposed of in the trash, but other more toxic types of batteries should be taken to the Newton Resource Recovery Center (115 Rumford Ave, Auburndale) for proper disposal.
The list of items include:
- rechargeable batteries (nickel cadmium, nickel metal hydride),
- silver oxide,
- mercuric oxide,
- lithium button batteries,
- and automotive batteries.
The Newton Resource Recovery Center is currently open BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. Call Customer Service at 617-796-1000 Monday-Friday 8:30am-5pm to schedule an appointment. Unfortunately, residents without an appointment will not be able to enter the site.
Summer hours (by appointment only): Tuesday-Friday from 7am-3:30pm*
Closed on Saturdays until further notice, Sundays and Holidays.
*Weather Related Closing May Occur Unexpectedly: Please call Customer Service at 617-796-1000 if there has been a heavy snow or rain storm. Rain and thunderstorms often cause flooding at the Resource Recovery Center, which leads to temporary closure of the site.
