Bad news – you cannot recycle beer toppers, the plastic holders that hold cans of beer together, in the green curbside recycling carts. Because they are flat, they slip through the sorting machines at the recycling facility and contaminate other materials. Good news – you can now return your beer toppers for reuse and recycling to a local beer store. In Newton, you can take them for reuse and recycling at Burke’s Alewerks (1391 Washington St, West Newton). Black is preferred, and toppers should be in good condition for re-use in packaging its beer. You can also check for other collection locations around Massachusetts on the interactive map.
