After this weekend’s heavy snow, you might be feeling the chill in your home. Perhaps you’re noticing ice dams on your roof. You might be in shock looking at your winter electric bill. For all these reasons and more, it’s probably time to think about your home’s insulation.
For this next month, Green Newton is going to be focused on giving you all the information you need to insulate your home. Perhaps you don’t know where to start, or think it will create too much of a mess, or are worried that it might be too expensive. We are here, along with Newton’s Energy Coaches, to answer your questions. Insulating your home is one of the most important things you can do to decrease your energy consumption and carbon footprint. This is why it is one of the four main climate actions in the City of Newton’s ‘4 Our Future’ campaign.
Some reasons insulating your home is so important:
- It will help your home feel more comfortable
- It will reduce energy use and save you money on your electricity bill
- It can help prevent ice dams and damage to your roof
The first thing to do is to schedule a home energy assessment to determine your insulation and air sealing needs. There is a list of MassSave Home Performance Contractors that can both do the assessment and perform the insulation work. Green Newton partners with HomeWorks Energy.
During the month of February, the E-news will feature information about new financial incentives from MassSave, a walk-through of what an insulation installation looks like, and some key terms you should know to help you make informed decisions about your home’s insulation.
