Biking is great for your health and the environment, but for longer distances or daily commutes, an electric bike might be worth the investment. E-bikes look and function just like regular bikes, except they have a motor that can help as you pedal, making it easier to cover long distances or hilly terrains. You can turn up the electric assist when you need it, and charge it overnight just like your phone. If you’re in the market for an electric bike, here are some of Green Newton’s favorites:
- Watt Wagons Ultimate Commuter Pro – This is one of several commuter e-bikes from Watt Wagons (a local Newton company), designed to replace your car for commutes and daily errands – $6,899
- Aventon Level – One of the most affordable e-bikes on the market with a great reputation – $1,799
- Urban Arrow Family Cargo Bike – A top of the line cargo e-bike that can be used to wheel around kids, groceries, and more – $6,999
- Rad Power Bikes RadWagon 4 – A more affordable, family-friendly cargo e-bike with an excellent reputation that you can load up with whatever you need to carry – $1,899
With lots of options to consider, we recommend heading to local stores with lots of knowledge about electric bikes, such as Landry’s Bicycles and Wheelworks in Belmont. Also stay tuned, as we will be working with Newton’s EV Task Force to hold another e-bike expo this summer so you can see several models in action!
