Mothers Out Front Newton is partnering with ProtectNewtonTrees.org to raise awareness of the significant role mature trees play in fighting climate change and to mobilize our community to save these trees from neglect, drought, construction activity, mulch volcanoes, gas leaks, and other threats.
See our webpage: Be a Tree Protector. Find out what is harming trees and what you can do to protect them.

Volunteers have been calculating how much specific trees in Newton Centre store carbon, prevent flooding by absorbing stormwater, and save energy by cooling the air. A ‘tree tag’ shows each tree’s benefits.

There will be an online photo gallery of the trees and their tags. Newton residents will be encouraged to calculate the value of trees in their neighborhoods and contribute photos to the gallery. To download instructions and a tree tag template, go to “How to Calculate Your Tree’s Climate Benefits and Create a Tag for a Tree You Love“.

To increase pride in Newton’s magnificent trees, we will also be asking the community to help find special trees in Newton, for example, Newton’s largest trees, historic trees, and other public or private trees in each of Newton’s villages with great stories or remarkable characteristics.

We support the City of Newton’s efforts to protect our tree canopy as well as the goals of organizations such as Trees As A Public Good and the Charles River Watershed’s Regional Tree Planting and Protection Plan.
