Check out the website Simplify the Holidays by the Center for Biological Diversity. You can find tips on holiday celebrations and gift giving that consume less fossil fuels and natural resources, generate less waste, and are kinder to wildlife and the habitats in which they live.

They suggest seeking meaningful alternatives to consumer driven gift giving–alternatives that are memorable, unique and more economical over mass-produced items found in big box stores:

Simplify the Holidays is a program of the Center for Biological Diversity. Aligned with our mission of saving life on Earth and our belief in the interconnectedness of human life with nature, Simplify the Holidays seeks to empower individuals and families to be more conscious of the impacts of holiday traditions, and in doing so, reconnect with meaningful and lasting celebrations.

The Center’s Population and Sustainability program works to address the connection between human population growth, consumption and the extinction crisis. We advocate for common-sense solutions, including equity, education, access to healthcare, sustainable food systems, waste prevention and conscious consumption. Simplify the Holidays was originally a project of New Dream before becoming a part of the Center’s sustainability campaign.
