Are you considering a major renovation or addition in the new year? Consider adding high efficiency energy upgrades to your home. The payoff comes in energy savings every month and comfort. In addition, MassSave–a collaborative of utilities and energy efficiency service providers–offers financial incentives for home renovations and additions that exceed the Massachusetts building energy code to improve energy efficiency. Homeowners may qualify for a 0% HEAT loan program and financial rebates of up to $10,000 for various energy efficiency upgrades.
These improvements include:
- Insulation
- Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning
- Water heating equipment
- Lighting
- Air and duct sealing
To take advantage of these rebates, the homeowner or contractor must apply before construction begins so that a baseline ‘blower door’ test of the home’s efficiency can be conducted. Then another ‘blower door’ test is conducted after completion of the renovation, and the degree of improved efficiency is calculated. The rebates given are based on the this improved efficiency as well as any insulation and equipment upgrades the homeowner has completed.
