Newton at Home and The Second Step recently launched Home Again, a program that collects and donates new and gently used houseware items to residents of The Second Step, a transitional home for survivors of domestic violence and their children.
Donors can bring their items to the Newton Food Pantry at City Hall (1000 Commonwealth Ave., Newton) or to the Centre Street Food Pantry (11 Homer St., Newton). Newton at Home volunteers can pick up donations from Newton at Home members if desired.
Home Again is accepting donations of the following new or gently used items: Sheets/comforters/blankets; lamps; dishes; silverware; pots and pans; frying pans; spatulas; whisks; dish drainers; dish detergent; dishcloths; dish sponges; mixing bowls; measuring cups and spoons; coffee makers; toasters/toaster ovens; power towels (individually wrapped); boxes of baggies/ziploc bags; shower curtains; bath mats; toilet paper; cleaning supplies; buckets; mops; brooms; and vacuum cleaners.
Jon Ufland, principal and managing broker of Unlimited Sotheby’s International Realty in Newton Center, donated the use of a large room for storage. Mindy Peckler, a Newton at Home volunteer, donated new, sturdy shelving.
