Volunteers are needed to conduct a survey on Saturday, September 16 in Newton’s neighborhoods to help determine how important this goal is to Newton residents and how much more they would be willing to pay to make it happen. It is a simple survey and we will offer a short training prior to each two-hour shift. Participants can sign up for either a morning shift beginning at 10am, or an afternoon shift beginning at 2pm. Survey volunteers will be able to finish their work 12:30pm or 4:30pm. For those willing to make a full day commitment, the entire project would last from 10am-4:30pm.
The City of Newton has an opportunity to negotiate purchasing electricity on behalf of all Newton residents. This will allow the city to negotiate the best price and to increase the content of green electricity, produced in New England from solar and wind, NOT fossil fuels. Right now Massachusetts requires that 12% of electricity is “green”. Newton can go higher than that. Perhaps a lot higher.
Please email, Claudine Ellyin, Green Newton Board member, if you can participate at claudineellyin@gmail.com. In your email to Claudine, please specify if you can work the morning, afternoon or both shifts. Claudine will then send all volunteers the details, including the meet up location, etc.
Thank you in advance for your help with this survey!
