Saturday, May 17, 2-4pm. Fair Oaks Avenue in Newtonville, between Fessenden and California Streets.

How is the Green Newton Sustainable Street Tour better than a Google search? You will be able to talk directly with four of your Newton neighbors and knowledgeable volunteer Newton Energy Coaches about projects to make your home more sustainable. There’s nothing better than speaking directly with someone who has completed a project to help you get started on yours.

The self guided tour will be showcasing the following 15 environmentally beneficial features (and probably a lot more), all within a 2 minute walk:

  • Air source heat pumps
  • Geothermal (Ground Source) heat pumps
  • Heat pump water heaters
  • Sustainable lawns
  • Rain barrel water collection
  • Electric vehicles
  • Hybrid electric vehicles
  • Induction stoves
  • Purchased rooftop solar
  • Leased rooftop solar
  • Spray foam attic insulation
  • Curbside composting
  • Indoor storm windows
  • Tree tags for large trees on the street (They help people understand how beneficial an individual tree is in fighting climate change.)
  • Demonstration of how shade trees reduce the nearby ground and air temperature.
