I love the Fulfilled Goods store – our local low-waste market – but worry about its future viability without more of our support.

It has an amazing array of grocery staples – you can get as much or as little as you want with NO PLASTIC added.

But often I’m the only customer in the store, which has been open 2 years now. I’m dismayed to think that Newton of all places isn’t making the shift to more sustainable habits.

It’s a wonderful place! Kinda like being at Erewhon on Newbury St in the 70’s! You can get all kinds of grains, beans, nuts, rice, pasta, dried fruits, oils, vinegars, spices, maple syrup, granolas, treats, flours, sugars, coffee and tea. You can refresh your aging spice collection! Every time I go I find a new offering, like almond flour and tahini. They also have kitchen laundry and personal care items, all carefully selected, and many items that make great gifts. I just found they have bulk mineral sunscreen!

I’ve found parking easy in front of Fulfilled Goods (across from Whole Foods on Washington St in Newtonville), but often park at Whole Foods or Marty’s, then cross using the very easy/safe crosswalk to shop for all my staples. If you forget a container (I use lightweight old plastic containers to transport) the store has extras. Then I cross back to Marty’s (gourmet shop) and Whole Foods, where thankfully it is still possible to buy produce not encased in plastic.

The store owner did not ask me to write this and has not reviewed what I wrote. I just really want this business to succeed and stick around. After 2 years in operation it is evident that there are still not enough customers there.

I’m sure I don’t need to remind you of the plastics in our oceans, or that microplastics are now in our bloodstreams. Here is something we can all do to help, and it is easy.

So if you are one of the numerous environmentally conscious Newtonites not yet shopping regularly at Fulfilled Goods, get your butt and your bag of containers there asap!

Please – give it a try! You will love it too!

Customers could also help by doing google reviews and social media likes.
