Stop and Shop has announced that by July 2023 it will be eliminating all single-use plastic bags at its northeast stores and charging customers for paper bags. This is a tremendous step forward to reduce the amount of toxic plastic circulating in our environment. Newton was a leader with our vote in 2015. 157 communities in Mass have now banned the bag. (Our neighbor Needham just made the change two weeks ago!) It is beyond time for the state legislature to pass a statewide ban.
