Shoutout to Grad Bag for helping make the transition to college more equitable AND sustainable! Grad Bag partners with Boston-area colleges to collect, refresh, and distribute lightly used dorm room items to first generation college students. In 2019, nearly 20,000 pounds of linens in addition to thousands of lamps, rugs, pillows, storage containers, fans, hangers and more were collected from college campuses and donated to grantee organizations for distribution. Grad Bag “giveaway” events in New York City, Yonkers, Boston, and Portland equipped more than 1,700 students with supplies for college in the fall.
College partners that help collect goods include Babson College, Brandeis University, Olin College, UMass Lowell, Tufts University, and Wellesley College. Organizations receiving goods from Grad Bag are The Wily Network, One Goal Graduation, Transitioning Together (Newton North High School), Beacon Academy, Brandeis First Gen, Welcome Home/Newton, MA, Tufts BLAST and Tufts First Gen, Lowell Dorm Starter Kits, Wellesley Connects.
