Embodied carbon – including the greenhouse gas emissions arising from the manufacturing, transportation, installation, maintenance, and disposal of materials – accounts for 11-23% of our global annual emissions. In spite of the staggering impact embodied carbon has on the climate crisis, local health and equity, embodied carbon is still rarely included in our local and statewide laws and policies addressing the emissions in our buildings. In order for us to transform our buildings from climate polluters to climate protectors, we must address embodied carbon as well as operational carbon.
Learn more about what embodied carbon is; the technical solutions to reduce embodied carbon in our built environment; and the policy avenues that can be taken to create a low-carbon, healthy, and equitable future for all.
This event is sponsored by the Massachusetts Climate Action Network (MCAN).
