• Ride to Fresh Pond Cambridge – Tuesday, July 26 from 6-7:30pm 

Starting in Newtonville, the 11 mile group ride will take you to Watertown Square, down Arsenal Street, and then onto the new Watertown-Cambridge Greenway to Fresh Pond. Then the ride will loop around the pond and head back on the trail. There is the option of stopping at the excellent Joyful Garden Chinese restaurant at the Watertown Mall on the way back for some supper  if the group would like. Bring some bike lights in case it’s gets dark during the ride.

The group will meet in front of the Star Market on Austin Street in Newtonville, and will leave promptly at 6pm. This is a family-friendly, “no-rider-left-behind” ride and all ages are invited, but all young children must be accompanied by an adult. No registration  necessary, but bike helmets are required, and please bring a mask or facial covering. Be sure to check bikenewton.org for any last-minute changes. (Approximate Route)

 

  •  Newton Highlands to Chestnut Hill – Saturday July 30 2pm 

Led by Historic Newton, the leisurely-paced ride will take a closer look at the history of some of Newton’s recreation areas. The group will stop at Crystal Lake and Newton Centre Playground on the way to the Chestnut Hill Reservoir, once a popular destination for 19th century bicyclists. The approximately six-mile loop starts and ends at Landry’s Bicycles (66 Needham Street, Newton Highlands). Riders must wear a helmet and sign a waiver. There is a fee of $10 for Historic Newton members, an $15 per person for non-members. The tour is recommended for riders over age 12. Rain date: Sunday, July 31. Register HERE.
