Program Committee Member Volunteer
Join Green Newton’s Program Committee to help envision, plan, and host impactful events that inspire community engagement and advance our mission for a sustainable future.
Program Committee Member (Volunteer)Green Newton is seeking enthusiastic and creative volunteers to join our Program Committee. As a Program Committee Member, you will play a vital role in envisioning, planning, and executing engaging events that draw new participants to Green Newton and support our mission to create a sustainable future. This position is perfect for individuals who are passionate about the environment, enjoy collaborating with others, and have a knack for organizing impactful community activities.The committee members will participate in one or more of the following:Event Development and Planning:
- Help conceptualize and design engaging events that align with Green Newton’s mission and attract new supporters.
- Assist in creating comprehensive event plans, including timelines and task lists.
Promotion and Publicity:
- Develop creative social media content and manage promotion schedules to maximize event visibility.
- Share event announcements to community social media groups and pages.
- Mention upcoming events in conversations within the community to spread awareness.
- Support the creation and distribution of promotional materials.
Volunteer Recruitment and Coordination:
- Solicit and organize volunteers to assist with event execution, including roles such as performers, photographers, and on-site helpers.
- Engage Green Newton members to participate in an internal “push program” to boost event attendance.
On-Site Support:
- Help manage event logistics during the event, including welcoming attendees and ensuring smooth operations.
- Take photos or coordinate photography to capture memorable moments.
Post-Event Activities
- Develop and share social media posts highlighting the event’s success.
- Assist with post-event evaluations and identify opportunities for improvement.
Qualifications
- Passion for environmental sustainability and Green Newton’s mission.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Creativity and enthusiasm for planning and promoting events.
- Experience with social media content creation and marketing is a plus.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team and engage with the community.
- Willingness to dedicate time to attend meetings and participate in events.
Time Commitment
Program Committee Members are expected to attend monthly committee meetings and contribute time as needed (and as your schedule allows) to support event planning and execution. The role is flexible and can be adjusted based on your availability.

Social Media Volunteer
Help create and share engaging content across social media platforms to raise awareness of Green Newton mission and events.
- Create compelling social media posts, including graphics and content
- Follow and contribute to Green Newton’s social media calendar
- Monitor social media engagement and report on findings
- Develop strategies for increasing engagement
- Monitor and schedule posts to Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn
- Interact positively, when appropriate, with social media users on behalf of Green Newton
- Coordinate with staff and volunteers to promote upcoming events and initiatives on social media
Qualifications:
- Detail-oriented
- Active on social media
- Self-motivated
- Ability to write clearly and with close attention to editing
- Ability to follow instruction without close supervision
- Interest in climate change and environmental issues desired
- Background in graphic design or visual arts helpful
- Experience working with Canva
- Experience creating short videos is a plus
Hours: Approximately 1-3 hours/week.
Volunteer Video Marketing Specialist
Use your video production and editing skills to craft compelling stories that showcase Green Newton’s impact and initiatives.
Job Summary: Green Newton is seeking a Volunteer Video Marketing Specialist who is passionate about fighting climate change and promoting sustainability. As a key member of our team, you will attend Green Newton events and capture the excitement and energy on video. You’ll then use your creativity and expertise to turn that footage into powerful videos that showcase Green Newton’s successes and inspire others to take action. This is your chance to make a real difference for the environment while developing your video marketing skills!Key Responsibilities:
- Create short videos of testimonials from Newton residents to highlight investments they have made to create a more clean energy home.
- Attend Green Newton events and capture video footage that showcases our initiatives and successes.
- Use your creativity and expertise to create powerful, impactful videos that inspire others to take action on climate change
- Produce short educational videos, as well as “reels” for use in social media
- Use video editing software to add music, graphics, and other effects to videos to make them stand out
- Ensure that all videos are consistent with Green Newton’s branding guidelines
- Manage and organize video files to keep everything organized and easily accessible
- Record, edit and produce videos a year.
Qualifications:
- Passion for the environment and sustainability
- Experience with video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality
- Experience building a community using video on facebook, instagram, and other social platforms.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a diverse team
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Willingness to work approximately 5-8 hours per month
This is a volunteer position, but it provides a great opportunity to make a real difference for the environment while developing your video marketing skills.

Earth Day Committee Volunteer
Collaborate with a dynamic team to plan and execute an impactful Earth Day celebration that inspire sustainable actions in the community.
- Collaborate with the team to envision and plan a successful Earth Day celebration.
- Take on a specific role tailored to your interests and skills, such as:
- Publicity: Promote the event through local media and community channels.
- Vendor & Organization Outreach: Solicit local vendors, organizations, and exhibitors to participate.
- Entertainment Coordination: Hire performers and manage event entertainment.
- Volunteer Recruitment: Organize and manage volunteers for the day of the event.
- Event Photography: Capture memorable moments during the celebration.
- Social Media Engagement: Develop and post engaging content leading up to and during the event.
Time Commitment:
Committee members should be available for bi-weekly planning meetings (schedule TBD) and the April 27th Earth Day event itself. Additional time may be needed based on your chosen role.
Qualifications:
- Passion for environmental advocacy and community engagement.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
- Enthusiasm for contributing to the success of Green Newton’s Earth Day celebration.

Sustainable Street Tour Volunteer
When you volunteer to help organize a Sustainable Street Tour, you’ll inspire your neighbors, spark conversations and drive change. Choose a role that best meets your interests and available time.
Adopting green technologies is a behavior change challenge, but seeing others like us make sustainable choices can motivate action. Research shows that people trust information shared by family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors.A Sustainable Street Tour is designed to:
- Spark conversations about going green.
- Showcase real-life examples of sustainability upgrades.
- Make eco-friendly changes feel achievable for everyone.
By sharing personal experiences, neighbors can inspire and support each other in adopting sustainable practices.
Volunteer Opportunities: How You Can Get Involved!
Choose a role that suits your skills and interests. Each position can be filled individually or by a small team.
1. Planning Coordinator
- Recruit at least 6 homeowners to host tour stops.
- Inform neighbors about the event and encourage them to participate (e.g., placing yard signs).
- Serve as the main contact for City resources and planning team members.
- Lead team meetings and ensure the plan is on track.
2. Marketing & Communications Coordinator
- Design promotional materials (flyers, social media posts, etc.).
- Reach out to local media outlets (e.g., Fig City News, Mayor’s newsletter, Boston Globe).
- Post on social media and encourage sharing.
- Distribute promotional materials throughout the community.
3. Logistics Coordinator
- Recruit volunteers for setup and day-of tasks.
- Gather supplies such as tables, tents, signage, and food.
- Coordinate setup and cleanup activities to ensure a smooth event.
4. Day-Of Volunteer
- Put up signs around the neighborhood.
- Assist with setting up tables, tents, and banners.
- Welcome attendees and staff an information table.
- Capture the excitement with photos and videos.
