Thursday, May 4 from 6-9pm. Newton South High School (140 Brandeis Road).

Newton Inspires is The Newton School Foundation’s annual fundraising event to support the Newton Public Schools. This year, the set of speakers include Andy Gluck and Andrew Thompson, two staff members of the Newton Public Schools and long time advocates of sustainability in education, who will be speaking on “Newton Students Tackling Sustainability.”

Andy Gluck is a building aide and Green Team leader at the Underwood School. He was recently awarded a ClimateChange Microgrant by the City of Newton and Village Bank to expand the school’s composting program. The grant will support the purchase of stainless steel composting units for each classroom. The Underwood program includes instruction about the benefits of composting.

Andrew Thompson is a teacher at Newton South High School and teaches its senior elective course in sustainability, which has helped students work to make Newton a greener and stronger community. He is also a member of the Green Newton board.

Tickets are $40 and include a boxed meal. Donations are welcome. After a reception with live music by Newton Public School students and a light meal, attendees will be able to attend two sessions from among a number of speakers, followed by a keynote by Tiziana Dearing.
