The State Department of Public Utilities has approved the new Eversource Basic Service rates, effective February 1. The new Eversource rates are:
Residential – 15.629 ¢/kWh
Small business – 15.030 ¢/kWh
Large business – 17.893 ¢/kWh
By contrast, the Newton Power Choice rate is 13.990 ¢/kWh, thereby providing significant savings compared with Eversource’s rates.
The Newton Power Choice rate is fixed from January 2026 through January 2028, while Eversource’s rates change every six months for residential and small business customers and every three months for large business customers. Newton Power Choice participants are free to leave the program at any time with no fee or penalty.
Because Eversource’s rates change periodically, long-term savings cannot be guaranteed, although on average Newton Power Choice customers have saved money in the past. (Residents are automatically enrolled in Newton Power Choice through the City of Newton unless they request to opt out.)
If you have questions about Newton Power Choice, including how to tell whether or not you are enrolled, please see newtonpowerchoice.com. You can also call MassPowerChoice, at 833-272-9592, if you have questions.
