Young Artists Invited to Celebrate Earth Day Through Art

The Newton community is invited to celebrate creativity, nature, and environmental action at Newton’s Earth Day Festival on Sunday, May 3 from 12:00–3:30 PM at Zervas Elementary School. The festival will feature activities focused on learning, celebrating the planet, and taking action to protect it.

As part of the celebration, organizers are inviting kids of all ages to submit original artwork for a special exhibit called “eARTh Verse and Vision”. The gallery will showcase student creativity and give young artists the opportunity to share their perspectives on nature and caring for the Earth with the community.

Students are encouraged to create a drawing, painting, poem, or haiku inspired by nature or the planet. Artists may also choose to incorporate recycled or reused materials in their work as a creative way to reflect Earth Day values.

How to Participate

  • Create your art! Make a drawing, painting, poem, or haiku inspired by one of the prompts below. Bonus: Use recycled or reused materials!
  • Label your art: Include the artist’s name, age, prompt, and artwork title (if it has one). Open to kids of all ages!
  • Submit your art by April 20: Drop it off at the Newton Free Library OR mail it to P.O. Box 590242, Newton, MA 02459.

Participants are asked to choose one of the following prompts to inspire their creative design:

A. The Most Beautiful Place on Earth 🌳
Draw a real or imagined place you love in nature. What makes it special, and how can we protect it?

B. Small Wonders 🐝
Focus on the tiny details of nature—like a bee, flower, butterfly, raindrop, or leaf.

C. I Am a Climate Hero 🌱
Show or describe one meaningful action you can take to help the planet.

D. A Love Letter to the Planet 🌎
Create art or write a message showing your gratitude for Earth.

Artwork will be displayed at the Earth Day Festival, giving young artists the opportunity to see their work featured as part of a festive community celebration.

Celebrating Creativity and the Planet

Newton’s Earth Day Festival brings together residents, organizations, and families to celebrate the natural world while learning about ways to protect it. Through the art gallery, organizers hope to inspire children to express their connection to nature and imagine ways to care for the Earth.

Families and educators are encouraged to share this opportunity with young artists and classrooms.
