Share a Sustainable, Plant-Based Meal in April and Get on the Map

You are invited to join a worldwide Earth Day campaign, 1 Million Tables for the Planet. Join the fun any way you want – as long as it’s around a single plant-based meal. It can be a meal with your partner or family, a dinner party with friends, a potluck, a picnic, a celebration with your book group, or a night out at a restaurant. Big or small, every table counts.

Food plays a powerful role in climate change. Animal agriculture contributes approximately 14% of global greenhouse gas emissions, and requires enormous amounts of increasingly scarce water. Some foods contribute more to climate change than others. This means each of us can vote for Planet Earth with what’s on our plate – no legislation needed.

A single plant-based meal may not seem like much, but when tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, even a million of us across the world cast that vote together, the impact is enormous.

250+ tables pre-registered for 1 Million Tables. This relatively small number resulted in 17,000+ kg of greenhouse gases from being emitted — the equivalent of flying roundtrip from Boston to London 17 times, or 1.5 years of the average home energy use. Collectively, those tables saved 1.1 million gallons of water — the equivalent of 8.5 years of showers or drinking water for 4,400 people.

Now imagine the impact we’ll have as thousands more join the 1 Million Tables movement!

1 Million Tables for the Planet is a project co-created by Debra Alexander, founder of Plant Powered Foundation, and Marla Felcher, creator of Good News Veg. There are many talented people behind this effort. We are not seeking sponsors, and we will never sell anyone’s information. This is not about money; it’s bringing the world together, and honoring Planet Earth.
