Understanding your energy bill can be challenging, especially as energy costs continue to rise. Knowing how much energy you use, who supplies your electricity, and what you’re paying for supply versus delivery can help you identify opportunities to save money and make your home more comfortable.
That’s where Energy Help Office Hours come in. Green Newton and the City of Newton’s Climate & Energy team host monthly drop-in sessions at the Cooper Center, open to everyone. Bring your electric or gas bill to ask questions, better understand your energy use, and learn about programs and resources that may help you save.
Not sure if Energy Help Office Hours are for you? At office hours, you can get help with:
Understanding your supply and delivery charges. Learn what you’re paying for and understand your options for electricity supply. On average, customers enrolled with competitive electricity suppliers pay more than customers using utility supply or municipal aggregation, such as Newton Power Choice. We can walk you through your options, explain how to leave a third-party supplier, and help you switch to municipal aggregation. including your options for electric supply.
Accessing utility bill assistance. We can help you determine your eligibility and apply for programs such as discounted gas and electric rates, debt management plans, and the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP). Other options, including payment plans and budget billing, are available to all residents, regardless of income.
Connecting to energy-saving opportunities and resources. Learn about Mass Save energy efficiency programs, starting with a no-cost Home Energy Assessment available to households every two years. We can also discuss community solar, home electrification options, and resources specific to Newton.
