We’ve been in your neighborhood — we hope you stopped by!
This summer, you may have spotted us at Village Days, a farmers market, or the City’s Picnic & Play in the Park series — we were at more than 20 community events, saying hi to neighbors and talking climate action.
We also ran programs of our own, built around what you and our neighbors told us you needed, for example:
- Scoop on Solar — a practical look at how to evaluate solar for your own home
- Energy Office Hours — one-on-one help lowering your energy bills and answering your clean energy questions
- A guided walk through Cold Spring Park
- Our monthly Green Drinks socials
Every one of these exists because someone in Newton asked a question, showed up, or wanted to connect with neighbors who care about the same things they do.
None of it happens without volunteers
This season alone, over 15 youth and over 15 adult volunteers powered our events — many of them showing up again and again, for more than 60 volunteer shifts combined. That kind of consistency is rare, and we don’t take it for granted.
A special thank-you to the team from Burns & McDonnell, who brought a crew of volunteers out last week to support our Junk Jam Upcycle event as part of the City’s Picnic and Play in the Park series. We’re so grateful for their partnership this year!
And that’s just the volunteers you might have met in person at public events. Many more people work behind the scenes — serving on committees, leading initiatives, doing research, helping with outreach. If you’ve ever thought about getting more involved, we’d love to hear from you.
