Green Newton’s Saving Energy Team (SET) includes seven local high school students with a goal to schedule 120 No Cost Mass Save Home Assessments by September 2026.
Mass Save is a state program that provides experts to identify opportunities for insulation and air sealing in homes and connect you to rebates covering 75–100% of approved improvements. It’s the easiest—and most affordable way to make your home energy efficient and climate friendly. You are eligible for an assessment if you have not had one in the past two years.
AND every homeowner that schedules a Mass Save assessment by September 2026 with Green Newton’s SET students will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win one of six $50 raffle prizes to Johnny’s Luncheonette or Cabot’s Ice Cream.
Green Newton is grateful for the support it has received from the City’s Microgrant program and Village Bank.
To learn more about assessments, students attended an energy assessment in person at the home of Green Newton board member Garry Miller, giving them a chance to learn from the energy expert. After the assessment was completed, the contractor returned a few weeks later to add insulation, seal air leaks and add and weather stripping. An air pressure test was performed before and after the work was done. Miller reported: “The second pressure test came back 1000 cfm* lower than the first, which is the equivalent of closing four open windows! And thanks to Mass Save, my out of pocket cost was just $400.“
