Come See the Electric School Bus at the GreenEXPO

October 20 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm

Sunday, October 20 from 11am-4pm. Langley Road in Newton Center.

Come see and “kick the tires” of the electric school bus on display at the Green Expo @Harvest Fair.  The Newton Electric Vehicle (EV) Task Force will be joined by representatives of the school bus manufacturer/dealer company, who will be on hand to discuss the benefits of going electric and answer your questions.

At 1pm in front of (or inside) the bus, there will be short speeches of endorsement and Q&A by candidate for Massachusetts Representative Greg Schwarz; Newton City Councilor Andreae Downs (to be confirmed); Jason Raposa, regional manager of Highland E-bus Company; and a representative of New England Transit Sales. Moderators will be Philip Vergragt and George Kirby of the EV Task Force.

Why are Electric School Buses Important?

Newton and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts have set ambitious climate goals. Transportation is the largest emitter of greenhouse gases in the Northeast. Electrification of cars, trucks, buses, and trains is well underway, supported by federal funds from the Inflation Reduction Act. Electrifying school buses is also key: diesel-fueled school buses emit toxic chemicals, which are especially dangerous for children’s health.

It’s critically important for us to build consensus in Newton and move forward with an electric school bus demonstration project. We urgently need to act on our priorities for climate sustainability and reduce toxic fume exposure to our children sooner rather than later.
