Saturday, October 4, 10am-1pm. The Street (Pond side of 27 Boylston Street, Chestnut Hill).
Welcome Home is hosting its Fabric of Community Blanket at Chestnut Hill and they need your new or gently used blankets and towels. Bring your donation items to the drop-off truck parked on the pond side of The Street and help fill it up with essentials for families in need. Every donation directly supports Welcome Home’s mission of providing household goods to families in need.
After your donation, you’ll also get to enjoy freebies and treats from your favorite brands. It will be a family-friendly event, so bring your kids, your dogs and stop by to help support the work of Welcome Home! This drive not only gathers critical items for those in need, it’s also about weaving together our Newton community. Even small acts of kindness can warm hearts alike.
About Welcome Home
Welcome Home Newton is a local nonprofit in Newton, Massachusetts, dedicated to helping individuals and families build safe, comfortable homes. They provide essential household items such as blankets, silverware, plates, bowls, and small kitchen appliances like blenders or mixers to families experiencing hardships, those moving from shelters into affordable housing, and newly arrived immigrants to the community.
In May 2022, Welcome Home Newton received the Green Newton Nonprofit Leadership Award in recognition of their important work and commitment to sustainability. Inside the organization’s warehouse, donations are carefully sorted and organized by category, from dishes and cups to rugs, wall art, and decorative items. Welcome Home Newton recognizes that “comfort” is more than just the basics—vases, cushions, and other home accents help beneficiaries express themselves and make their living spaces truly feel like home.
To receive items, clients submit a simple letter requesting the household goods they need. A dedicated volunteer team (now over 120 strong) keeps the warehouse running smoothly by stocking, sorting, and organizing donations. Due to high demand, there is often a waitlist, and items typically go out to families as quickly as they come in. Most donations are sourced from community members cleaning out attics, basements, or storage spaces. Donation drop-offs are available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays by reservation. Items that cannot be used are either recycled or passed along to local homeless shelters, ensuring nothing goes to waste. Importantly, Welcome Home Newton does not require any proof of need, making the process more accessible and dignified for those seeking help.
Accepted donations include:
Dishes, silverware, and glasses
Pots and pans
Small kitchen appliances (toasters, microwaves, etc.)

New bed pillows
Clocks, rugs, vacuum cleaners, and wall décor.
Items not accepted include stained, chipped, or broken items, as well as electronics, furniture, or used bed pillows. For those unable to donate in person, financial contributions are also welcome through their website.
