Time is Running Out to Take Advantage of Federal Incentives for Solar and Other Home Energy Upgrades – For Many, Installation Must be Completed by End of 2025

State-level incentives will remain after this year, but time is limited to take advantage of the Federal incentives. Most of these upgrades require completed installations by December 31, 2025, so make a plan today so you don’t miss out on the tax credits. Here is a summary:

Home Energy Upgrades

  • Air-source heat pump, air conditioner/heater: up to $2,000
  • Heat pump water heater: up to $2,000
  • Weatherization/insulation: up to $1,200
  • Electrical panel upgrade: up to $600
  • Home energy audit: up to $150
  • Installations must be completed before December 31, 2025.

EV Chargers

  • Up to $1,000 federal tax credit.
  • Available until June 30, 2026.

Solar, Battery Storage, and “Geothermal” (Ground-Source) Heat Pumps 

  • 30% federal tax credit (40% in designated Energy Communities).
  • Residential systems must be installed and placed in service before December 31, 2025.
  • Commercial projects must begin construction before July 4, 2026, and meet strict “Safe Harbor” requirements to qualify.
