For years, the nonprofit group, Elders Climate Action (ECA) has called upon AARP (formerly known as the American Association of Retired Persons) to inform its members about the risks of climate change. Finally acknowledging the urgency of taking climate action, the cover of the June 1, 2021 AARP Bulletin reads, “What You Need to Know About Climate Change: How It’s Already Affecting Your Health, Home and Safety — and What You Can do About It.”
AARP is large and influential interest group focusing on issues affecting those over the age of fifty. If–as the June article indicates–AARP is truly committed to mitigating climate change, the organization must take the lead in helping secure the legacy of a livable world for all generations to come.
