Tip of the Week: Use the ‘Too Good to Go’ App to get Delicious Foods at a Great Price

Food waste has an enormous impact on society, the economy and the environment. Restaurants are sometimes left with perfectly usable surplus food that isn’t served, contributing to food waste.

The Too Good to Go app connects users with local cafes and restaurants who have delicious but unsold food items. Keeping good food from going to waste is a good thing for us, for businesses, and for the planet. There are many participating stores in the Boston area and even some in Providence, RI. Some of the stores participating in Newton include:

  • Farm Grill and Rotisserie
  • Country Desserts Bakeshop
  • Whole Foods (both Walnut St. and Washington St.)
  • NY Bagel Factory
  • Cafe Nero
  • Bakey
  • Pon deJoy
  • House of Tandoor
  • Breadsong Bakery
  • Tous Les Jour
  • Blackers Bake Shop
  • Baza Gourmet Food & Spirits
  • Juice Press
  • Panera Bread (Needham St.)
  • Salt Patisserie

How does it work?

Consumers download the app (available for iOS in the Apple Store and on Google Play for Android), browse participating locations nearby, reserve and pay for a “Surprise Bag” to pick up. Then, they head to the store during the pick-up window. The contents of each “Surprise Bag” vary daily and app users can expect to get a range of products at one-third of the retail value — from a bag of fresh fruit and vegetables, three pizza slices, or a couple of extra sushi rolls, to a pint of gelato or an assortment of pastries.
