There are two main options: Level 1 and Level 2 charging.
Level 1: Plug into a standard outlet
Every EV comes with a charging cord that can plug right into a regular household outlet (110–120 volts). This option adds about 4–5 miles of range per hour, so it’s perfect if you typically drive 50 miles or less per day. Just plug in overnight and you’ll be ready to go in the morning — no special installation required.
Level 2: Faster charging with a dedicated outlet
For quicker charging, consider installing a Level 2 charger. This setup uses a 240-volt outlet — the same kind used for large appliances — and can add about 20–25 miles of range per hour. A licensed electrician can install one for you, typically for around $1,000–$1,200, depending on your home’s wiring.
If you’re upgrading to Level 2, your electrician can also check if your electrical panel needs an upgrade to 200-amp service, especially if you’re adding other electric systems like a heat pump or induction stove.
To make your charging even cleaner, consider opting up to 100% renewable electricity through Newton Power Choice or installing rooftop solar panels so the energy that powers your car comes from renewable sources
