MassEnergize is an organization that works with local communities to take climate action by promoting clean and renewable energy. This year, they have selected New

ton North students to compete against 12 other high school teams in Massachusetts in the Youth Climate Solutions Challenge. The overall mission of the challenge is to encourage sustainable behavior and transition to more climate-friendly household technology.
Newton North’s eight-student team, named “Newton Youth Energizers,” has set a goal to encourage one hundred Newton households to sign up for Home Energy Assessments by the end of April. Home Energy Assessments help to reduce the carbon emissions of homes by:
- providing insulation that maximizes heating and cooling,
- checking for up-to-date boilers and burners, and
- assessing for air sealing leaks.
All of this is done while performing checks to ensure safe levels of carbon monoxide in our homes.
In partnership with community organizations and local leaders, we hope to engage in additional outreach campaigns such as:
- canvassing door-to-door,
- designing flyers,
- tabling/hosting at community events,
- building social media informational campaigns, and
- developing a website.
Home Energy Assessments are equally beneficial for both the practicality of lowering utility costs and taking climate action in our community. That can start with you, our reader, to support the team and local climate efforts by emailing newtonyouthenergizers@gmail.
P.S. All people who complete the form to schedule a home energy assessment and/or refer a friend during the month of February, will be automatically entered into a raffle for a $25 Cabot’s Ice Cream & Restaurant gift card!
