Green Newton is seeking a part-time Volunteer Social Media  Intern to help with expanding our outreach to the Newton community. We are looking for a dependable individual to use social media to connect to people who care about Newton’s environment and want to take steps to protect it.  Because Green Newton does not have a central office, the Intern will work from home.

Green Newton is a non-profit organization working to create sustainable solutions to environmental problems facing our city and our world, often in collaboration with city government, schools, and other nonprofits across Massachusetts. 

 

Responsibilities: The Social Media Intern will be responsible for posting to social media channels.  The Intern will:

  • Create compelling social media posts, including graphics and content
  • Follow and contribute to Green Newton’s social media calendar
  • Monitor social media engagement and report on findings
  • Develop strategies for increasing engagement
  • Monitor and schedule posts to Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn
  • Interact positively, when appropriate, with social media users on behalf of Green Newton
  • Coordinate with staff and volunteers to promote upcoming events and initiatives on social media

Qualifications:

  • Detail-oriented
  • Active on social media
  • Self-motivated
  • Ability to write clearly and with close attention to editing
  • Ability to follow instruction without close supervision
  • Interest in climate change and environmental issues desired
  • Background in graphic design or visual arts helpful
  • Experience working with Canva 
  • Experience creating short videos is a plus

 Hours: Approximately 1-3 hours/week. This is an unpaid volunteer position.
