Green Newton is forming a new community committee to explore bringing Miyawaki forests to Newton. These dense, fast-growing native mini forests can help increase biodiversity, absorb carbon, reduce flooding and heat, improve air quality, and create vibrant community green spaces.
We are in the exploratory phase and looking for community members who have experience or interest in:
- native plants, horticulture, forestry, or ecology;
- landscape design or urban planning;
- community organizing or volunteer coordination;
- education, outreach, or communications; or
- fundraising, grant writing, or donor connections.
Whether you’re an expert, a passionate resident, or simply curious to learn more, we’d love to have you involved as we explore what Miyawaki forests could look like in Newton.
