Virtual Event

Mothers Out Front Newton will host Marc Welch, Commissioner of Newton Parks and Recreation. Welch will discuss his role caring for Newton’s urban forest as head of Urban Forestry since 2002 and provide an update on the impact of Newton’ Tree Preservation Ordinance.

The program is part of Mothers Out Front’s ‘Be A Tree Protector’ campaign to raise awareness of the climate benefits of trees and to promote the goals of the Ordinance…”The preservation of tree canopy and the planting of replacement trees is key in enhancing the quality of life and the environment of the city; to protect public health against climate change impacts such as heat, drought, and flooding; to preserve the character of wooded and natural areas; to reduce energy consumption; to protect air quality; to baffle noise; to preserve and enhance habitat for wildlife; to reduce topsoil erosion; to protect and increase property values; and to enhance the overall city.”
