Green Newton Community Survey Results: A Strong Foundation for Future Growth

This June, Green Newton conducted a community-wide survey to better understand how we’re doing—and how we can continue to strengthen our impact. We’re excited to share some of the highlights with you.

Thanks to the 109 people who responded, we gained valuable insights into how Newton residents engage with sustainability, what they value most, and how Green Newton can grow.

What We Learned

Green Newton is a trusted, go-to source for local sustainability.
Respondents overwhelmingly see Green Newton as a leader in:

  • Raising awareness around environmental issues
  • Providing valuable education
  • Helping residents take meaningful action

Education and community connection matter.
Popular events include webinars, Earth Day celebrations, and the Green EXPO. Respondents are also interested in:

  • Speaker panels and workshops
  • Community cleanups and planting events
  • Communications through email, Facebook, and YouTube

People care about these key issues:

  • Clean energy and electrification
  • Waste reduction and composting
  • Protecting green spaces in our community

Opportunities for Growth

While we’re proud of the trust and recognition Green Newton has earned, the survey also revealed areas to focus on next:

  • Growing our membership: Some respondents weren’t sure if they were current members—highlighting a great opportunity to clarify what membership means and how easy it is to join. At just $25 a year, becoming a member is an accessible way to support local climate action.
  • Expanding our reach: We heard interest in more hands-on events, greater visibility across Newton’s diverse neighborhoods, and deeper engagement with businesses and underrepresented communities.
  • Refining communications: While email remains a strong tool, platforms like LinkedIn and YouTube offer other ways to reach more residents and partners.

What Comes Next

We’re energized by your feedback. Your responses will guide our work as we grow our reach, refine our programs, and make it easier for every Newton resident to take climate action—right at home and in the community.

To everyone who responded: thank you.
You’re helping shape the next chapter of climate leadership in Newton.
