The City of Newton has been putting solar electric panels onto city buildings since 2013 when they were first installed on the roofs of Countryside Elementary, Memorial Spaulding Elementary, and Brown Middle Schools. The City leases the installations for 20 years, and the panels offset the cost of electricity for the City. Progress on installation continues this spring with the Newton Free Library and a number of school buildings. See the list of public buildings with completed or planned solar installations.
