Currently, more than 80% of bottles with deposits are redeemed / recycled, compared with less than 23% of bottles without deposits. The Boston Globe reported on Aug. 15 that 62% of likely voters support expanding “the nickel deposit that encourages recycling of soda, beer, and malt beverage containers to include bottled water, sports drinks, and other noncarbonated beverages.” We all want to reduce water bottle and sports drinks litter and save on the costs of litter pick-up and trash disposal.
