The Too Good to Go app connects users with local cafes and restaurants who have delicious but unsold food items. Keeping good food from going to waste is a good thing for us, for businesses, and for the planet. There are many participating stores in the Boston area and even some in Providence, RI. Some of the stores participating in Newton include:
- House of Tandoor
- Breadsong Bakery
- Galit’s Cafe & Bakery
- Tous Les Jour
- Blackers Bake Shop
- Baza Gourmet Food & Spirits
How does it work?
Consumers download the app (available for iOS in the Apple Store and on Google Play for Android), browse participating locations nearby, reserve and pay for a “Surprise Bag” to pick up. Then, they’ll head to the store during the pick-up window. The contents of each “Surprise Bag” vary daily and app users can expect to get a range of products at one-third of the retail value — from a bag of fresh fruit and vegetables, three pizza slices, or a couple of extra sushi rolls, to a pint of gelato or an assortment of pastries.

What I'm reading on the bus to Boston this morning: This wild story by @robertianlewis about how, since 2010, nearly half of CA's toxic waste has been trucked out of state to be disposed in places with more lax regulations 👀 https://calmatters.org/environment/2023/01/california-toxic-waste-dumped-arizona-utah/
