It’s almost fall and time for the leaf raking (or leaf blowing) to commence. Consider keeping the peace and healthier air by raking leaves by hand or hiring a service that will use hand raking or an electric leaf blower. Green Newton has put together a list of providers that offer this service.
Newton’s summer ban on use of gasoline-powered leaf blowers ended on Labor Day. After Labor Day, the gas, electric or battery-powered 65 decibel leaf blowers or lower are allowed Monday-Friday, 7am-5pm, and Saturdays, 8am-5pm. All leaf blower use is prohibited on Sundays, except by residents on their own property between 9am-5pm, and by owners of 30 or more contiguous acres of property between 9:30am and noon. The decibel rating of all leaf blowers must be labeled on the machines.
Leaf blower violations should be reported to the Newton Police Department at 617-796-2100 and wait for the prompt for dispatch.
