The Newton City Council is considering resolutions, endorsed by Green Newton and 350 Mass Newton, in support of Carbon Pricing and Divestment from Fossil Fuels. Please contact your Councilors HERE asking them to approve the following resolutions:
We ask that the Newton City Council call for the Massachusetts legislature to put a fee on carbon in fossil fuels to: make individuals and corporations accountable for the costs of their actions when they choose to use fossil fuels; level the economic playing field between fossil fuels and conservation, efficiency, and renewable energy sources; and ignite a free-market based clean energy revolution.
We also ask that the Newton City Council endorse and support state legislation requiring divestment of statewide retirement funds, including funds managed by PRIM and invested in PRIT, from fossil fuel companies as soon as practicable and in any event no more than five years, and immediately precluding any such investments in the future.
