Samples of four brands of children’s crayons and two kids’ crime scene fingerprint kits contained deadly asbestos fibers, according to tests commissioned by EWG Action Fund. Inhalation of asbestos fibers can cause mesothelioma, an incurable malignancy that attacks the lining of the lungs or other organs; asbestosis, which makes breathing excruciatingly painful and can lead to death from heart failure; and cancer of the lungs and other organs.

The tests found asbestos in four samples of crayons, including those sold under popular children’s characters like Mickey Mouse, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Power Rangers.

Demand that Toys R Us, Party City, Dollar Tree and online retailers such as Amazon.com stop selling asbestos-contaminated children’s products immediately.
