The City’s new ordinance says that no gas-powered leaf blowers are allowed in Newton between Memorial Day and Labor Day.  Electric or battery-operated leaf blowers with the manufacturer’s label indicating that it does not exceed the 65 decibel limit are allowed year-round.

During the period from Memorial Day to Labor Day only one electric or battery operated leaf blower is allowed per lot. 

Monday – Friday hours of use: 7 am-5pm, except that the City of Newton ‘s Parks and Recreation Department shall be allowed to use leaf blowers prior to 7:00 a.m. for the sole purpose of maintaining city village centers. Saturdays hours of use: 8am-5pm. 

Sundays – No leaf blower use allowed except for residents of the property on which the leaf blower is operated. Property owners may use leaf blowers between 9:30am and 5pm.

Large property owners (30 acres or more) may use leaf blowers from 9am to 12pm.

Only leaf blowers with the manufacturer’s label indicating that it meets the 65 decibel limit will be allowed in use within city limits.

From Memorial Day to Labor Day only ONE electric blower may be used per property in Newton. ALL gas-powered blowers are banned between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
