Newton’s Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment was adopted by the Newton City Council in December. The next step will be submitting the final plan to the state for approval and admittance into the Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness Program. There will be a presentation of the development process and discussion regarding the Climate Action Plan in front of the Zoning and Planning Committee on January 28 at 7pm in Room 205 at City Hall (1000 Commonwealth Ave., Newton).
The final public workshop for the Climate Action Plan as been set for March 21 and will be held at the Barry Price Center in Newton Upper Falls. There will be more to come about the content of this workshop and RSVP information.
The next step is to finish the Hazard Mitigation Planning process, as a completed HMP is a required to gain admittance to the state Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness Program. Once this document is completed, the city will submit the Vulnerability Assessment to the Executive Office for Energy and Environmental Affairs for approval.
