Bob Jampol is a retired high school teacher who was always concerned with the environment. What Bob has done in Newton is truly impressive. He has made his home 100% emission free. He and his wife, Dahlia Rudavsky, use heat-pumps for temperature control all year round; they have an electric stove, solar panels, and an electric water heater, and they even drive electric vehicles. Not only did they want to help combat climate change, but they also wanted to make their home more comfortable. Certain rooms were not properly heated and cooled in the past. Heat pumps and mini-splits better control house temperature without fossil fuel usage.
Why do you support Green Newton?
I believe in the importance of the environment, and the dangers of climate change.
How have you retrofitted your home?
My home is 100% fossil fuel free. We had mini splits and heat pumps installed, employing our old duct system whenever possible. We use an electric stove, hot water heater, and electric cars. We also have solar panels.
Why did you commit to these retrofits?
We wanted to cut down on carbon emissions. Additionally, our previous heating system wasn’t reaching every part of the house, which is where the mini-splits came in. Electric cars have been saving us about $1500 a year on gas. It all works beautifully, well worth the investment.
