Boston Magazine reports that the real estate brokerage firm Redfin has ranked Newton Centre in the top four of  the Greenest Neighborhoods in the country.

Redfin found out which neighborhoods are making strides in sustainable living in 2016. By combing through real estate listings mentioning green features (like “energy star,” “LEED,” “solar,” or “green built,”) analysts compiled the top 10 neighborhoods in the country with the highest percentage of green homes. Newton Centre claims 49 percent.

The analysis points out that Newton Center gained the top spot because of all the resources residents have available to them. Green Newton’s “Newton Solar Challenge,” which offered free home solar evaluations  is mentioned as an example. And the Newton Energy $avers initiative, run by City of Newton (with the collaboration of Green Newton!) helps homeowners get free home energy audits as well as energy saving home improvements.
