The expanded rebates for buying an electric car in Massachusetts are now officially available. That means you can get $3,500 if you buy a new (or used) fully electric vehicle that costs under $55,000, plus $1,000 more if you turn in a gas-powered car with the purchase. And lower income residents can get another $1,500 back . This is all in addition to federal EV incentives you may qualify for. (And you can get both.)

WBUR’s Miriam Wasser has all the eligibility details here. The state also has a list of qualifying vehicles on its website.

For now, residents can also get a $1,500 rebate if they buy a new plug-in hybrid car that costs less than $50,000. However, that incentive will be phased out this spring.
