There may be better financial incentives ahead in 2022 for those who install heat pumps! As part of a plan to help achieve mandated 2030 and 2050 emission reduction targets, Mass Save has submitted a three-year plan to the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities that includes increased incentives for weatherization and heating system upgrades, and better incentives for income eligible customers.
For those planning to upgrade heating and cooling systems in the next year, waiting until the 2022 incentives are approved may be a good option. The plan proposes a new incentive for whole-house retrofits with heat pumps, better incentives for conversions from natural gas, and elimination of central AC-only rebates. Finally, the maximum amount for MassSave HEAT Loans may increase substantially.
