The MBTA Better Bus Project is proposing changes to local and express bus routes, including in Newton. A public meeting to discuss the proposed MBTA bus changes systemwide will be held online on Wednesday, November 2 at 6pm. The goal of these changes is to improve speed and reliability on high priority routes and update the bus network, for the first time in decades, to match how people live and work today.

Routes were prioritized using anonymous cell phone location data on where people were walking, biking, and driving. Since seniors are less likely to own smartphones, the MBTA did targeted outreach with the help of the Mass Senior Action Council to confirm that the data represented their travel too. Corridors with high travel demand made by transit dependent populations were identified as High Priority.
