On Tuesday, May 14 at 3pm in honor of Rachel Carson Day, Green Newton will join Newton Mayor Ruthanne Fuller and local environmental organizations, community groups and civic leaders at Newton City Hall (1000 Commonwealth Ave., Newton) in a call to action for the policies and safeguards that protect our health and community from threats such as climate change, pollution, and waste. We will celebrate our advocacy for energy efficiency, pollution prevention and conservation of natural resources such as our Newton Power Choice program for 60% Class 1 renewables in our electricity supply. Please R.S.V.P. to ellie.goldberg@gmail.com.

Newton Mayor Fuller’s  Proclamation of Rachel Carson Day honors the legacy of Rachel Carson (May 27, 1907 – April 14, 1964). Carson was a scientist, ecologist and writer whose 1962 book Silent Spring catalyzed the modern environmental movement. She taught us that our health is intimately dependent on the quality of our environment.
