Green Newton board recently voted to initiate a new solar initiative in our community. The goal is to increase the number of homes with rooftop solar PV systems in Newton and surrounding communities. We have selected two highly qualified suppliers to work with. One specializes in PPA (Power Purchase Agreements) and the other specializes in purchased systems. Our community will have the opportunity to get free quotes and discounted pricing on solar systems installed by our partner suppliers. Green Newton will also have the opportunity to receive income from referral fees for each completed installation to be used to help fund other projects.
We hope to formally kick off this effort in early March, when the weather is a little warmer and the sun is shining for more hours in the day. We need volunteers now to help make this effort a success. You don’t have to know anything about solar to help, and it will not be a heavy commitment of time. We will give you all the training you need. We need help in the following areas:
- Solar coaches to help with education on the benefits of solar and how the program works.
- Graphics art talent to help create a logo and lay out a printed brochure to be made available at Green Newton events and public places like the Newton Free Library.
- Help in getting publicity in the TAB, on our website, and in social media.
- Help in organizing one or two community educational events where the public can come to learn about our program.
- Help in creating and distributing yard signs to be used to promote our solar initiative.
